Mites Stomp Central

HAMDEN - HYHA’s Mite A team added to its win total this weekend with a pair of victories against a strong Central A team. The home & home victories continue what has been a very strong season.

“We have a bunch of really strong skaters.” said Mite A Coach Danny Cain. “We have a team of kids that can all really skate and have learned to play team defense. They know how to protect our goalie.” Hamden’s first game was indeed an exhibition in complete team defense. The Mites came out passing & moving the puck to scoring areas & got quick goals by Brody DeFrancesco and Luca Iuliano. After quickly jumping ahead it was all Hamden. Jackson Cain, Piper DeFelice, and Nate Castiline added to the offense to put the game away.

Sunday Hamden traveled to Newington to face the same Central A team. “As a coach you always worry about playing the same team back to back.” said Mite A Coach Mike DeFelice. “Sometimes after a win you worry about the team taking the foot off the gas.” It turned out Coach DeFelice's worries didn’t come to pass. Hamden once again came out flying, and led by the tremendous effort of goalie Nash Dittman, earned its second victory. Hamden’s offensive pressure came early with Evan Allard and Stephen Johns leading the charge. As the game continued the relentless defense of Hamden wore Central down. Kai Cocchiaro, Emma Verzella, and Beckett Mirando finished up the Mite’s effort to give Hamden its second win.

“It’s really been a fun year, this is a really great group of kids.” said Coach DeFelice.
